Sports Writers awards go to Rafiq, Shujon & Nannu |

Dhaka-- (UNB) - Bangladesh Sports Writers Association (BSWA) distributed its sports annual awards for last three years at a colourful function at the Dhaka Sheraton Hotel last (Sunday) morning. Prime Minister's political advisor Dr SA Malek was the chief guest at the function and handed over the awards for 1997, 1998 and 1999 to the recipients. State Minister for Youth, Sports and Cultural Affairs Obaidul Quader was present as special guest and distributed the certificates. Chaired by BSWA president Mahmud Hossain Khan Dulal, the function was addressed by BCB president and Deputy Minister for LGRD Saber Hossain Chowdhury MP and SAF Games soccer gold winning Bangladesh captain Jewel Rana on behalf the recipients. BSWA general secretary Shahidul Azam and Javed Khasru, representative of function-sponsors “Thikana”, a New York-based Bengali Weekly, also spoke on the occasion. The function was followed by a cultural show, participated by renowned vocalists Kumar Biswajit, Shakila Zafar, Shuvro Dev and Rukshi. Award recipients: 1997 - Sabrina Sultana (Shooting), Imtiaz Ahmed Nakib (football), Mohammad Rafique (cricket), Mahfuz Alam Nixon (hockey), Rahima Khatun Juthi (Athletics), Abdullah Al Rakib (chess), Nibedita Das (swimming), Hosne Ara Khan (organiser), Shamima Sattar Mimo (coach), Faruqul Islam (judge), and Beximco Limited (patron). 1998 - Ziaur Rahman (chess), Khaled Mahmud Sujon (cricket), Mohammad Javed (hockey), Nilufar Yasmin (athletics), Nasiruddin Jony (shooting), Nazrul Islam (organizer), Jalal Ahmed Chowdhury (trainer), Lt Col (retd) A Latif Khan (referee, boxing), and Square Group (patron). 1999 - Jewel Rana (football), Minhajul Abedin Nannu (cricket), Alfaz Ahmed (football), Sabrina Sultana (shooting), Mahbub Alam (athletics), Dolly Akhter (swimming), Kurshed Alam (hockey), Saber Hossain Chowdhury (organizer), Hasanuzzaman Khan Bablu (trainer), and Nitol Group (patron). |
